An Autumn Guide for Red Lips
If there’s one thing to be excited about when the weather turns chilly, let it be the amazing changes that you can make to your wardrobe and beauty routine. When it comes to the latter, you get to enjoy long soaks in the tub with your favourite bath bomb, spend extra time moisturising for that all-important healthy glow, and change up your make-up look for something new. For autumn, we’re all about red lips. And the best thing about this year’s styling in particular? You can experiment with a variety of shades, finishes and textures.
There are four key hues for this season. Poppy red was strong at Nina Ricci, and the key with this look is to keep it extremely matte; purposely opt for a lipstick in that texture, or blot a shinier shade thoroughly and apply in layers. This romantic beauty appearance requires a glowing backdrop – look to dewy foundations and highlighted cheeks – and little eye make-up.
Another lipstick look to try this autumn is that of roasted red. This is our personal favourite – it sees lip pencil mixed with lipstick to create another matte finish, and the shade is slightly darker than the former poppy hue. Imitate the styling as seen at Felder Felder and pair the look with pale, clear skin and tousled hair for a smart eighties throwback.
Alternatively, opt for classic red in a shining finish. This is a shade that anyone and everyone can pull off. Simply team them with heavily mascaraed eyes and any hairstyle you like for a look that will most definitely impress. For a truly wintry look, choose a vampy red lipstick. Radiating power and a sense of darkness, a lipstick verging on burgundy provides the perfect finishing touch to many dark autumnal outfits. Look to Zac Posen for vampy inspiration.
