Fashion Focus on Paris Fashion Week

This month’s mega-fashion bonanza is finally drawing to a close, but not without an appropriate finale. Paris Fashion Week is almost upon us, and the excitement amongst the fash-pack is almost palpable; after weeks of sitting in the front row and ogling the haute couture on offer in New York, London and Milan, the bright and the beautiful will flock to the fashion mecca of Paris for the final grand shows from the doyennes of fashion. More elegant, more effortless and more ethereal than their counterparts in other cities, there’s plenty to be enthused about in Paris.

Balenciaga, Dior, Valentino and Louis Vuitton are just some of the big name designers waiting to show their collections at Paris Fashion Week, which kicked off on the 26th. As the city where so many of fashion’s best and biggest brands were founded, it’s no wonder that every year the fashion glitterati flock to the City of Lights, clothed in their finery, ready to be wowed by what is in store. Perhaps the best known, and the most anticipated, is the Chanel show next Tuesday; with Karl Lagerfeld still at the reins, the brand continues to go from strength to strength – and their clothing and accessories are often top of every fashion-conscious lady’s wish list.

Amongst all the couture and the designer labels, however, is an exciting development at Paris Fashion Week – H&M is to stage its first catwalk event in eight years at the Musée Rodin. For such an accessible brand to be showcasing a collection at this prestigious event just shows the leaps that have been made in the fashion world in the previous few years to make the medium available and inclusive to those without the budgets for designer garments. It’s also testament to the exciting designer collaborations which H&M have been promoting over the past few seasons.

With strong trends emerging in New York, London and Milan, it will be interesting to see what comes out of the shows at Paris. The world of fashion is fickle and fast-moving, and what happens this week could dictate what we’re wearing come Autumn this year.
