How to Host the Perfect Dinner Party
The weather has firmly turned a good few degrees colder, it’s officially autumn.
Spend some quality evenings in the home and start planning activities with family and friends to combat the winter blues. What better way to do this than host a dinner party? We list our top tips for a fabulous dinner party here:
Preparing Your Menu / Food
To ensure that you enjoy the evening and maximise your time with your guests, be sure to prepare as much of the evening as possible beforehand. Pre-cook or prepare as much as the food that you can ahead of the dinner, just to save time.
Ensure that you have an even balance of dishes throughout your menu.
Don’t be scared of your ability either! There are lots of super simple yet tasty dishes online that taste great and will impress your guests.
You don’t need to go overboard with decoration, a beautifully dressed table sets the scene at dinner parties. Dim the lights and use candles to set a relaxed atmosphere for your guests. A delicate or ornate centrepiece is also a great focal point on the dinner table.
Invite a mix of guests to your party for a real mix of conversations. Think carefully about the seating plan to ensure that guests with similar interests are set together or in close proximity.
Relaxed background soundtracks are perfect for dinner parties – so leave the drum and bass on the shelf! Spotify have a great selection of pre-made playlists that will last the night of your party.
After a few drinks and dinner has digested, it’s always a good idea to play a few fun party games – keep these simple, a game of charades is always fun to play after a couple of glasses of wine or “guess which celebrity I am” – funny ways to end the evening.
