Women that inspire us
March 8th is better known as International Women’s Day – every year women (and men) across the globe get together to celebrate the economic, political and social achievements of women.
So who inspires us here at Panache?
Leader of the British suffragette movement, Emily Pankhurst was once named one of the 100 Most Important People of the 20th Century by Time magazine. Although her militant tactics may have alienated many, there’s no denying that she was instrumental in women winning the vote.
A fashion icon and designer, Mary Quant OBE was a key figure in 1960s London and takes credit for designing both the mini skirt and hot pants. A champion of fun fashion and dressing to please yourself, Mary Quant is our kind of woman!
Joanne Rowling single-handedly got a whole generation of children (and adults) reading with the Harry Potter books, and became the world’s first female billionaire novelist, only to be knocked off Forbes’ billionaire list due to the level of her charitable giving. She’s also an advocate for single mothers, and has written three books for charity.
The ultimate femme fatale, and a dab hand in the kitchen – Nigella is the queen of celebrity chefs, proving that you can be curvy and sexy, and that a little bit of cream cake never did anyone any harm. That’s what we like to hear!
The golden girl of the Olympics, Jessica Ennis won the heart of the nation last year as she stormed to victory in the heptathlon. Not only that, but she comes across as very friendly and humble in all her interviews – a brilliant role model for young women.
